A little bit about myself.
My name is Wilfredo but most of you know me as freddy. I started my running journey back in April of 2020 mostly as a way to try and get some physical activity in the midst of the start of the pandemic. Where the world just felt like it was falling apart, running put me at ease and brought me some peace of mind. I quickly developed a routine of running 2 miles every morning that spring and decided to run my first virtual 5K that summer with a friend. I wasnt very fast but my reasons for running were more to release stress from everything that was happening in the world than it was for speed or weight loss. After the 5K I started running as a group with 3 of my closest friends and that summer i trained and ran my first 10K in the fall at the virtual carrera de los muertos. It was rough but i felt such a sense of accomplishment from completing my very first 5K and 10K that year. Fast forward to today and i have now completed multiple 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons. I am now ready to take on my biggest challenge and run my first Chicago marathon.
I am running with Team Chicago run as their mission resonates with me. Chicago run provides our youth with access to running and physical activity programs to get them involved in a healthier lifestyle. Our youth is exposed to so many unfortunate things in their life and dont always have a outlet or way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They did nothing wrong to deserve this which is why i am proud to fundraise and help provide programming for those kids who might not have access to it if it wasnt for Chicago run.
