Hello, My name is Ricky Hughes. I am a community builder from St. Louis, MO and the founder of STL Run Crew. 

I have decided to join the Chicago Run Team in support of the amazing work they do to empower and support youth with access to running and phyical activity programs. Their programs meet young people where they are, partnering with schools and community organizations to provide regular opportunities for trauma-informed and non-competitive physical activity. Their work reminds me of the work that we aspire to do in St. Louis; Keeping the Midwest connection strong!

I could go on and on about how much running and community has changed my life in the past couple of years.

Briefly, I started running in 2021 during the pandemic after realizing I had been suffering from depression for quite some time. However, it was witnessing the murder of Ahmaud Arbery that was the true catalyst that got me running. As I evolved in the sport, I quickly fell in love with the one step at a time process. I fell in love with the community it was bulding. Running inspired me to be more creative and further tell my story. Being a young black man, I also realized how powerful my representation in the sport was. Running has made me a better human being.

Here we are 2 years later, and I am running the Chicago Marathon. Mind you, before 2021, I had no idea how long a Marathon was! Now, I am representing something so much bigger than myself. I am so excited to be representing My City, My Family, My Crew and My Community in the Chicago Marathon on October 13th, 2024.
